The Nissan LEAF’s battery pack is designed for long life. After eight years it should still have 80% of its original charge capacity – although this will depend on the use to which you put the car. You can keep track of the capacity of the battery through a bar gauge on the instrument panel.

The Nissan LEAF's dashboard includes an eco-indicator, which registers battery-saving driving by lighting up tree emblems. The information is stored in the navigation system, so you can also check your long-term eco-rating, see your ranking from the day before, and even compare your driving with that of other Nissan LEAF owners.

When you have to brake suddenly, the Nissan LEAF's anti-lock braking system (ABS) pumps the brakes faster than you ever could. This helps you maintain control by preventing the wheels locking up, which in turn allows you to steer around obstacles.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) detects extra weight in the back, and adjusts the force of the rear brakes accordingly. Meanwhile, if Brake Assist senses an emergency, it helps you out with extra pedal pressure, and even activates the ABS and EBD more quickly.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) helps keep you in control while cornering. Say you hit a patch of diesel on the road. To keep you from sliding, VDC would monitor your steering and braking and then reduce the throttle, as well as applying braking to the appropriate wheels as necessary.

The Nissan LEAF's tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) lets you know whenever a tyre pressure is low. The Easy-Fill Tyre Alert takes the guesswork out of putting air in your tyres, too, because a beep of the horn lets you know when you’ve reached the correct pressure.

Make sure your Nissan LEAF is always right where you left it. Nissan’s advanced anti-theft system uses a chip embedded in your key, along with a unique code that prevents the engine from being started by an unauthorised key.
